Product Description

The CABAC Possum Guard is a practical overhead cable protection sleeve designed to help prevent possums from travelling along bare overhead conductors.

Developed by CABAC and used by a range of authorities, the guard works by creating an unstable, swivelling jacket around the cable. When a possum attempts to walk along the conductor, the rotating sleeve makes it difficult to gain a stable footing, helping to deter movement along the line.

Made from low-density polyethylene, the 800 mm sleeve is simple to install and is secured in place using cable ties. It is suitable for bare overhead conductors from 10 mm² to 240 mm².

Installation Instructions

1. Prepare the possum guard
   Remove the possum guard sleeve from the packaging and check that it is clean and undamaged.
2. Position around the cable
   Wrap the sleeve around the overhead conductor in the area where possum access is likely.
3. Secure with cable ties
   Use cable ties to secure the ends of the sleeve to the cable. Ensure the ties hold the sleeve in position while still allowing the guard to rotate.
4. Check the fit
   Confirm that the sleeve is securely installed and able to swivel around the conductor. The rotating surface should make it difficult for possums to gain a stable foothold.
